Cut glass smooth edges

I tried to cut glass then with bad results and it was left in a drawer. I only used it now because I needed to cut some glass for a pictue. I didn't think to look at instructables. I did a dry cut and passed over the line 4-5 times. I was able to cut the glass OK but the edge was terrible. Now I know why I got that horrible sound.
